    Steps To Appreciating Whisky

    There are 5 steps to truely appreciating fine whisky.... Pay close attention to the following details:

    • Colour - Is your whisky light gold, bright copper, or rich amber in colour?
    • Body - Does your whisky have a light, medium, or full body?
    • Nose - Which aromas do you recognize when you nose the whisky - is it malty, smokey, fruity, or chocolatey?
    • Palate - What characteristics do you notice on the palate - is it softly sweet, rich and fruity, or peppery and spicy?
    • Finish - Does the flavour remain for a long time or does it disapper quickly?

Scotch Whisky – Uisge Beatha

(Pronounced Ooshka Baytha)

Scotch whisky, often simply called Scotch, is malt whisky or grain whisky made in Scotland. Scotch whisky must be made in a manner specified by law.

All Scotch whisky was originally made from malted barley. Commercial distilleries began introducing whisky made from wheat and rye in the late 18th century. Scotch whisky is divided info five distinct categories: single malt, single grain, blended malt (formerly called “vatted malt” or “pure malt”), blended grain, and blended.

A native of Scotland, born and raised in Glasgow, Phil was weaned on the water of life!!.

Throughout a working life as a hotelier, restaurant & bar owner and operator, and hospitality consultant across the globe, Phil has long been introducing the delights of Scotch to people from England, Africa, Canada, USA, New Zealand and Australia.

While operating the Jack Russell Pub in Toronto he hosted a large group of mayors from small Japanese towns who spoke very little English—–Scotch has no language
